Competitors avoided it with foresight.įor companies like iZotope, they were M1 Native for AU and VST3 in the PREVIOUS versions of most of their products.īut this is impossible when the M1 Native AAX SDK does not exist. Avid's laggard development pacing stunted all of this by leaving the industry with no rhyme, reason or incentive (and indeed, even no capacity for quite a while) to support this.Īvid created this atmosphere by being incredibly slow to move forward. What Pro Tools users are dealing with now are what users of DAWs that utilize AU/VST3 were dealing with. This means that users weren't stuck dealing with Launch M1 issues over 2 years after the platform was released. ![]() When you take forever to release an M1 Native AAX SDK and an M1 Native DAW version for the only DAW that uses that plug-in format, it's your fault.Ĭubase didn't have an M1 Native version until v12 released, but Steinberg made sure an M1 Native VST3 SDK was available pretty much out of the gate. ![]() Steinberg got the VST3 SDK Ported long before Cubase has an M1 Native release for macOS, but the fact that no other products use AAX probably factored into Avid prioritizing this lower than Steinberg did. Had Avid moved as quickly as Steinberg, I think that stuff would all already be M1 Native for AAX by now. The only products that didn't move over were those that were discontinued/dropped from development like Iris 2, BreakTweaker, discontinued EA Reverbs, DDLY Dynamic Delay, etc. As a result, most iZotope products moved to M1 Native in the previous releases (RX/Ozone 9, Neutron/Nectar 3, Neoverb, Stutter Edit/VocalSynth/Vinyl 2, Vocal Doubler, etc.). Users wouldn't benefit from it.ĪU was a given, and the VST3 SDK moved to M1 Native really quickly. The SDK was very late, so there was no way to port these plug-ins over for a long time.Īnd without Pro Tools being M1 Native, there was no incentive to put forth the development resources for a port. It's definitely on Avid for taking long to release an M1 Native AAX SDK, in addition to taking forever to get Pro Tools to M1 Native. r/MixClub /r/ListenToThis /r/Music /r/RadioReddit /r/LearnMusic /r/Reasoners /r/AudioPost /r/GameAudio /r/RateMyAudio /r/StudioPorn /r/SFXLibraries Pro Tools Operating System Compatibility ChartĬomputer Optimization and Troubleshooting Guides - Mac and Windows Pro Tools product line feature set comparison As the site guidelines and their notices tell you, be sure to read the sub rules before participating Feature/Sticky Post Schedule DayĬontent Creation Station - for Evals and Self-Promotion Whether it is yours or theirs, there are no allowable exceptions or appealable circumstances.
